As a conclusion ~

I learned a lot in this course (vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation). Furthermore new general information; like the TOEFL, the multiples intelligences or the water.  I learned new techniques of learning, which I could use it to study in my degree and not just to learned English.

Now I know that I’m able to work in team, coupled at their own pace to make the things work.
I got better incredibly my writing skills using, the most of the times, the vocabulary that I saw in classes. Also, I got better some mistakes that I still had in pronunciation, and some more that let me know I need to practice a lot.

I remembered many things from the last levels, that I thought I forgot and these made me see that I need to practice it and get better my use of it, and also I know this could help me in the moment when I’ll have a conversation.

I saw I still have mistakes in grammar, and I need to correct them. Sometimes I confused the tenses, and it is a problem too. However, I know that if I practice enough I can get better and use it without problems.

And I think the solution for all this is just practice, practice! and practice!

Techniques of learning...

WHICH TECHNIQUES OF LEARNING DO YOU USE?

When I saw some new vocabulary or grammar in class and I know that I don’t understand or something like that, I prefer to use “traditional techniques of learning” as use that word everyday or maybe, use it in different context, and in the most of the cases, I use a dictionary and ask the teacher about the meaning. But, when the word is too difficult and I don’t know the pronunciation, I write the translation and the pronunciation under the word. I like this technique, because is simple and useful, but I want to try something different, you know?

So, I read about other new techniques, and I like one of them: Trying to remember words and phrases from songs or interesting texts also use it in English expressions, collocations, pictures, or just looking for a synonym an opposite. I think this could help me, because I love reading. However, I need to use this technique every single moment to get better my vocabulary, which help my problems in grammar and also, to help mi pronunciation.

This week I learned a lot of new vocabulary related with video games, TV shows and newspapers and now I’m looking on Google and YouTube some videos, music and pictures to help me to reminder all the stuff about this topics and make it easier to learn and use it. This could be a great help for me in the exams.

What kind of learner are you?

First of all, Intelligence* has been defined in different ways, including the abilities for abstract thought, understanding, communication, reasoning, learning, planning, emotional intelligence and problem solving. As you know, intelligence is affected by a number of differents factors: genetic, environmental, emotional and so on. Intelligence is most widely studied in humans, but has also been observed in animals and plants.

The Theory of Multiple Intelligence was created by Howard Gardner in 1983 when he published a book called Frames of Mind as a new model which revolutionized the way that educators looked at intelligence. Gardner believed in 7 kinds of intelligence and also he thought that everybody had more that just one. The intelligences are:

  • Verbal - Linguistic: This area has to do with words, spoken or written*
  • Logical - Mathematical: This area has to do with logic, abstractions, reasoning and numbers*
  • Bodily - Kinesthetic: Control of one's bodily motions and the capacity to handle objects skillfully*
  • Spatial: This area deals with spatial judgment and the ability to visualize with the mind's eye.*
  • Musical: This area has to do with sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music.*
  • Interpersonal: This area has to do with interaction with others*
  • Intrapersonal: This area has to do with introspective and self-reflective capacities.*

Gardner thought that if you didn't understand yourself you'll be more likely to make a bad decisions about your life. For him, the Intrapersonal intelligence is the most important, because it is an ability to understand what motivated other people. However, goals for young people are difficult to understand at first, that's why, according to teachers, stories help children to understand the world and according to Gardner, we should look at how intelligences work together.

What all this means is that if we can identify children's different streghts among these types of intelligence, we can hepl children to fuilfill their potential as learners.

Ultimately, it would certainly be desirable to have an algorithm for the selection of an intelligence, such that any trained researcher could determine whether a candidate's intelligence met the appropriate criteria. At present, however, it must be admitted that the selection (or rejection) of a candidate's intelligence is reminiscent more of an artistic judgment than of a scientific assessment.

Welcome to my blog! Yay! :D

Hi…
My name is Lizbeth Tovar. I was born in Matamoros Tamaulipas on December 1st 1991. But my family and I moved from there when I was almost I year, I didn’t remember anything about my life there. I have two sisters and one brother, they are: Alejandra, she’s 18; Felipe, he’s 16 and Irela, she’s 14. I’m living with them and also with my grandparents here, in Victoria City.

I’m studying Psychology at UATSCDH. I’m in my 3rd semester and it’s very hard. In the past I wanted to be a doctor or Lawyer, but everything changed when I was in high school and my life was a disaster. Then, I proposed myself to be a better person, I looked back and saw what I made wrong and thought:

“I need to change; I want to be better… I’ll get better.”

And I am now.

When I was a child I used to be very shy and serious person, but nowadays I’ve changed a lot. First of all I used to have very long hair, but I cut it off when I was 13 and dye –my first color was orange then red and finally black- then I had a piercing -4 years ago- and met some people that made me change. Now I’m more easygoing, and the most important thing: I’m a confident person.

I love reading. My favorite writer is Edgar Allan Poe. I read one of his works when I was 12. “The Raven” is my favorite poem of him and “The Black Cat” my favorite story. He is my influence in poetry –yes, I write poetry in my free time- I like listening music. My favorites bands are: My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold. I also like cooking, but I don’t have too much time. Sometimes I go out with friends to the movies or for coffee and yes, -as you know- just to get drunk.

I’m a really honest person and sometimes it makes me get in troubles with other people, it’s something that I’m working on. I hate lies, people who are double-faces, homophobes and wars.

·  What do you expect to learn using the blog?
If I’m honest, I don’t have any idea XD
Hahahaha, ok just kiddin’
I expect to learn more grammar: put here links and practice what we saw in class or maybe just for fun, writing only in English or something like that…

·  Do you think it is going to be helpful for your English class?
Of course! We really need to practice a lot, we’re in 7 & 8 and we still have problems –a lot of problems- in grammar so yes, this is going to be helpful.

Well, I hope you like it, see you soon!
xo;*
